The recent governorship election in Anambra state held on Saturday, November 6, 2021, was meant to be a major turning point for Nigeria. Most commentators said the election would be characterized by violence or that it would amount to a blow-out for Nigeria and the entire southeast.

Pundit told everyone to be careful, there were permutations about voter turn-out, the preparedness of the electoral umpire.

A few days to the 2021 Anambra governorship election, indeed, everyone prepared more or less for war and bloodshed. The police deployed over 34,500 personnel, 45 commissioners of police, 48 ACPS, two DIGS, five AIGS, three helicopters.

The Civil Defence Corps sent in over 20,000 men and The Department of State Security deployed its men and women as well to the location.

Previously, the President of Nigeria and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammadu Buhari, had given clear directives to that effect.

Anambra state has 21 local government areas and 18 registered political parties participated in the election.

The following are the top-rated candidates and their votes:

Chukuwuma Charles Soludo-APGA with a total of 103,946 votes

Valentine Ozigbo- PDP with a total of 53,807 votes

Andy Ubah-APC with a total of 43,285 votes

Ifeanyi Ubah–YPP with a total of 21,261 votes.

A Non-Governmental Organisation monitored the conduct of security operatives at the election in collaboration with the police service commission and a media outfit led to the peaceful polls. The NGO (Clean Foundation) released its mobile application called The Clean Mobile App which allows registered observers to report insecurity issues with their respective posts.

Chukwuma Charles Soludo is one of the famous Nigerian economists and also had a one-time regime as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria won the election with total votes of 103,946.
