On Monday, November 27, 2023, Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to preside over the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Council Chambers of the State House in Abuja. During this session, President Tinubu will administer the oath of office to eight newly appointed permanent secretaries, recently sanctioned to serve in the Federal Civil Service.

Among the attendees at the cabinet meeting will be Vice President Kashim Shettima and other ministers who were absent during the last FEC gathering on October 23, 2023, due to official engagements in the United States. The cabinet meeting is scheduled to commence at 12 p.m., with President Tinubu in the chair.

Notable figures expected at the meeting include the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folashade Yemi-Esan; the Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila; the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; and other cabinet members.

In the previous Council session chaired by President Tinubu, crucial decisions were made. The FEC approved a draft policy for the Nigerian Solid Mineral sector, encompassing operational guidelines, regulatory frameworks, and sourcing dynamics. Additionally, the Council gave the green light for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with GEO SCAN, a German Mining Technology Company, to explore Nigeria’s estimated $700 billion worth of mineral resources beneath the surface.

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) in Nigeria functions as the paramount advisory body to the President. Its responsibilities include formulating policies, providing counsel on governance matters, and overseeing the implementation of government initiatives.
