Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has expressed his dedication to transforming the narrative of the Police Force in the country to fulfill its mandate and the aspirations of all officers and personnel. This commitment was reiterated during his visit to the Adamawa Command of the Police headquarters to offer condolences for the loss of Inspector Jacob Daniel, who was killed in an attack by military officers.

The purpose of the visit was to share the IGP’s vision for policing, emphasizing the importance of the officers’ support and cooperation to realize the dream of a professionally competent, service-driven, rule of law compliant, and citizen-friendly police force. The IGP acknowledged the good work and sacrifices of the Adamawa State Command, emphasizing the administration’s vision for a police force that contributes to economic recovery, growth, and social integration in Nigeria.

He underscored the government’s commitment to the welfare of the police, expressing the desire to enhance equipment, manpower, and resources for effective job performance. However, he stressed the need for police members to exhibit good behavior, change negative attitudes, and perceive themselves as public servants to garner support and assistance from the people.

The IGP condemned the attack by unstable soldiers on the Adamawa State Police headquarters, equating the manner of the assault to terrorist and Boko Haram activities. He mourned the loss of Inspector Jacob Daniel, describing him as an excellent and trusted officer, and assured justice for his death. Additionally, the IGP pledged the Police Force’s support to the bereaved family.
