GAZA: UNITED STATES AFFIRMS BACKING FOR UN AID RESOLUTION
The United States has endorsed the latest UN draft resolution on humanitarian aid for Gaza, with a vote expected
The United States has endorsed the latest UN draft resolution on humanitarian aid for Gaza, with a vote expected later today. The initial draft called for a sustainable cessation of hostilities, but the final version now emphasizes creating conditions for such a ceasefire. The World Food Programme warns of a potential famine in Gaza within six months if the conflict persists.
Hamas states that Palestinian groups reject further hostage releases unless Israel agrees to end the war in Gaza. Israel, however, has consistently opposed a permanent ceasefire, with its National Security Minister asserting that concluding the war before defeating Hamas would be deemed a “failure.” Ongoing talks in Cairo aim to establish a new truce in the conflict.
The Gaza Government reported on Wednesday that 20,000 people have lost their lives since Israel initiated its military campaign against the group.
