Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, has announced that Nigerian troops have eliminated 86 terrorists and apprehended 101 others. Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, Major General Buba highlighted the military’s focus on air attacks to strike terrorist enclaves and exert significant military pressure on their hideouts.

During the operations, troops not only thwarted oil theft amounting to N736,115,470.00 in the Southern region but also arrested 30 individuals involved in oil theft and rescued 21 kidnapped hostages. Additionally, the military recovered 111 assorted weapons, including 65 AK47 rifles, one HK G3 dun, and 1,124 assorted ammunition.

In the Niger Delta area, troops discovered and destroyed 37 dugout pits, 65 boats, 71 storage tanks, and 14 vehicles. Other items recovered included 108 cooking ovens, 4 pump machines, a speedboat, and 60 illegal refining sites. The operations led to the retrieval of 1,013,530 litres of stolen crude oil, 299,169 litres of illegally refined AGO, and 3,158 litres of DPK.

General Buba emphasized the relentless pursuit of terrorist commanders, stating that both top leadership and lower-ranking commanders are facing imminent consequences. The overarching goal of the ongoing military operations, extending into the new year of 2024, remains to find and destroy terrorists wherever they may be hiding, ensuring their enduring defeat and safeguarding citizens across the country.
