Akpabio Pays Respects to Nigerian Military Personnel on Armed Forces Remembrance Day

Senator Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Nigerian Senate, has offered heartfelt tributes to the fallen heroes, as well as serving and retired military personnel of Nigeria, emphasizing their deserving honor and respect.

In a statement issued to commemorate this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day in Abuja, Senator Akpabio, through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon Eseme Eyiboh, underscored the significance of acknowledging the sacrifices made by the Armed Forces members in preserving Nigeria’s unity and peace.

Senator Akpabio expressed, “Nigerians owe their fallen heroes, serving, and retired military personnel absolute honour, respect, and, in fact, a debt of gratitude because it is not a fluke for people to offer their lives in defense of their countrymen and women to live in peace and harmony.”

He saluted the sacrifices made by those in the military, stating, “By laying their lives for our sake, those who died in the line of duty are our fallen heroes and must be honoured at all times. For those in the trenches fighting day and night and those who have retired, we will continue to give them their due honour and respect.”

Acknowledging the military’s vital role in defending the nation’s territorial integrity, maintaining peace, and upholding democracy, Senator Akpabio commended their commendable contributions to national progress.

Assuring continued priority to the welfare of Armed Forces members, Senator Akpabio pledged that the National Assembly under his leadership would provide unwavering attention to their well-being. He affirmed legislative support for the executive in repositioning the security architecture to address current security challenges.

Senator Akpabio extended gratitude to the families of military personnel, both living and deceased, for their sacrifices and resilience in supporting their breadwinners in the noble service to the nation.
