BURUNDI ALLEGES THAT RWANDA IS PROVIDING TRAINING TO REBELS

In recent weeks, relations between Rwanda and Burundi have soured, with Burundian President Evariste Ndayishimiye accusing Rwanda of supporting and training rebels from the RED-Tabara group. The Burundian authorities label RED-Tabara as a terrorist organization and accuse its members of involvement in a failed coup in 2015. President Ndayishimiye’s recent remarks, made during a youth conference in Kinshasa, have escalated tensions, prompting Rwanda to denounce the comments as “inflammatory” and a violation of the African Union’s charter. Burundi has responded by closing border crossings with Rwanda and expelling Rwandan citizens, citing alleged support for RED-Tabara. The rebel group, based in the Democratic Republic of Congo, claimed responsibility for an attack in Burundi last month, leading to increased hostilities between the two nations.
