Minister Urges Film Industry to Promote Girl Child Empowerment Through Cinematic Masterpiece ‘Roberta’

Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, the Minister of State in the Nigerian Federal Capital Territory, FCT, has called upon the Nigerian film industry and other key stakeholders to intensify their efforts in identifying and advocating for creativity, particularly narratives that empower the girl child.

Speaking at the unveiling of ‘Roberta,’ a cinematic masterpiece showcasing resilience, empowerment, and redemption in the narrative of the girl child, held at the Silverbird Cinema in Abuja, Mahmoud emphasized the importance of creating an environment where the voices and talents of girls are nurtured and celebrated.

Represented by Hajia Maijidda Adamu Kuku, the Special Assistant on Social Investment Programme and FCT Coordinator of SIP, Mahmoud commended the unwavering advocacy of Amb. Steph-Nora Okere towards uplifting the girl child in Nigeria.

Describing ‘Roberta’ as a commendable initiative and a significant step towards girl child upliftment, Mahmoud pledged her full endorsement and support for the cause.

She emphasized that ‘Roberta’ is not merely a film but a call to action for the empowerment and upliftment of the girl child, urging stakeholders to work towards a brighter and more inclusive future for girls in Nigeria.

In her remarks, the producer of ‘Roberta,’ Amb. Steph-Nora Okere, highlighted how her own childhood experiences as a girl child influenced her in bringing this compelling story to life.

Okere appealed for the support of the Ministry of Arts and Culture and stakeholders in the Nigerian film industry to collaborate in creating a conducive environment for the growth and development of the sector.
