President Tinubu Holds Closed-Door Meeting with Senate Leaders Amid Budget Padding Allegations

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu convened a meeting with notable figures including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, and other legislators at the State House in Abuja.

The specifics of this closed-door meeting held on Tuesday were not disclosed to reporters from the State House.

This gathering occurred shortly after the Senate took action to suspend Senator Abdul Ningi following his accusation that the upper chamber had inflated the 2024 national budget.

Senator Ningi, who serves as the Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum and represents Bauchi Central Senatorial District under the PDP, made these allegations in an interview with the BBC Hausa Service. He claimed that the administration led by President Tinubu was utilizing two budget versions in addition to the one officially approved on January 1, 2024.

According to Senator Ningi, the Nigerian Government was operating with a budget considerably larger than the one passed by the National Assembly.
