Finidi George Unfazed by Super Eagles Head Coach Vacancy, Prioritizes National Service

Finidi George, the head coach of Enyimba, a prominent team in the Nigeria Premier Football League, has expressed his lack of concern over securing the position of head coach for the Super Eagles on a permanent basis. This comes after the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced the vacancy for the role following the departure of Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro, who guided the team to a second-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The NFF initiated the search for a new head coach through an advertisement on its website, setting a deadline of March 13 for applications. The governing body emphasized the requirement for candidates to possess proven experience at the elite level of football.

Finidi George, a former player for Ajax and an applicant for the Super Eagles head coach position, assumed the role of interim coach for the national team during the international window. During his tenure, he led the team to a victory and experienced a defeat.

In an interview with Modo TV, the 52-year-old tactician revealed his lack of desperation for the job on a permanent basis, stating that he felt honored to take charge of the team. He emphasized his familiarity with the players, having been involved with the team for nearly two years, and expressed his commitment to serving Nigeria to the best of his abilities.

“I have been with the team for almost two years, I know all the players, their strengths, and their weaknesses but I am only here to serve Nigeria the way I know how to do stuff,” Finidi George remarked, showcasing his dedication to national service above personal ambition.

The statement reflects Finidi George’s humility and dedication to the team’s success, regardless of his own aspirations for the head coach position. His focus remains on contributing positively to the development and performance of the Super Eagles, echoing his deep-rooted commitment to serving his country through football.
