BUHARI APPROVES RELEASE OF 30,000 TONS OF MAIZE

PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI HAS APPROVED THE RELEASE OF FOOD ITEMS FROM THE STRATEGIC RESERVES, AS PART OF MEASURES TO EASE THE SPIRALLING OF FOOD PRICES IN THE COUNTRY.

THE SENIOR SPECIAL ASSISTANT TO THE PRESIDENT ON MEDIA & PUBLICITY, GARBA SHEHU, CONFIRMED THE APPROVAL IN A STATEMENT IN ABUJA.

THE PRESIDENT, ACCORDING TO THE PRESIDENTIAL SPOKESMAN, ALSO APPROVED THE RELEASE OF 30,000 TONS OF MAIZE TO ANIMAL FEEDS PRODUCERS TO EASE THE HIGH COST OF POULTRY PRODUCTION.

THE PRESIDENT EXPRESSED THE CONCERN OF HIS ADMINISTRATION OVER THE SUDDEN SPIRALLING OF FOOD PRICES, AT A TIME WHEN THE ECONOMY IS ALREADY MIRED IN A SLOWDOWN OCCASIONED BY THE GLOBAL CORONAVIRUS SITUATION.

HE, HOWEVER, ASSURED NIGERIANS THAT THE SITUATION IS TRANSIENT.

ACCORDING TO SHEHU, PRESIDENT BUHARI HAS BEGUN PUTTING IN PLACE MEASURES TO AMELIORATE THE SITUATION.
