The Federal Capital Territory Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 4,500 personnel to safeguard lives, property, and critical infrastructure ahead of this year’s Independence Day celebrations.
FCT Commandant, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, gave the order, stressing that the deployment covers both pre-event, during, and post-event security operations. According to Corps spokesperson Monica Ojobi, officers were drawn from specialised units, including the Female Strike Force, Arms Squad, Operation Adakasu, Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) unit, and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosives (CBRNE) team.
The personnel will be strategically stationed at key locations such as shopping malls, markets, prayer grounds, motor parks, amusement parks, the City Gate, Three Arms Zone, recreational centres, and major government buildings.
Dr. Odumosu also directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Officers to ensure maximum presence in their jurisdictions, warning that no lapses in security would be tolerated. He charged officers to work in synergy with other security agencies, maintain discipline, and strictly follow the rules of engagement while avoiding harassment, intimidation, and accidental discharge.
Reassuring Abuja residents of a safe celebration, Odumosu urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest security agency.
