The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed allegations that it is working to advance a political agenda favoring Nigeria’s northern region. Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, the party’s spokesman, Bolaji Abdullahi, described the claims as “ridiculous” and “unfounded,” insisting the ADC belongs to all Nigerians.

Abdullahi, a former minister, was responding to accusations made last month by the party’s former presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, who alleged that the ADC — recently adopted by an opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections — was part of a plot to return power to the North.

“You see, it’s ridiculous to say the least, and he should be ashamed of himself,” Abdullahi said, dismissing the allegations. “ADC is neither a party of the North nor of the South. It’s neither a party of Muslims nor of Christians. It’s neither a party for old people. It’s a party deliberately designed to develop and build the kind of future Nigeria desires.”

The spokesman further pointed to the party’s leadership composition, noting that several key figures are from the southern region — a sign, he said, of the coalition’s national spread. He also accused certain elements within government of attempting to create division within the party but assured that the ADC is working to counter such moves.

Also appearing on the programme, ADC chieftain Mani Ibrahim dismissed Kachikwu’s assertions outright, stressing that the former presidential hopeful no longer has any ties to the party.

“Dumebi Kachikwu is not a member of our party. He does not represent the ADC and has no right to speak on its behalf,” said Ibrahim, who is a former chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees.

The ADC leadership maintains that it will continue to promote unity and inclusion across all regions, faiths, and demographics as it prepares for the 2027 elections.
