Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has reiterated his administration’s firm commitment to financial discipline, insisting that prudent management of public funds remains the cornerstone of his leadership.

The governor disclosed that over ₦300 billion was set aside in the state’s coffers before the period of emergency rule, adding that upon his return he met a balance of about ₦600 billion.

Fubara assured residents that within six months, his administration would present clear, verifiable evidence showing how public resources are being deployed.

He spoke during the commissioning of the 14.2-kilometre Obodhi–Ozochi Road, a major link connecting previously neglected communities in Ahoada East and Ahoada West Local Government Areas.

Dismissing claims of financial mismanagement, the governor said misconceptions were fueled by his preference for quiet project execution without elaborate flag-off ceremonies. He noted that several impactful projects are ongoing across the state beyond those already commissioned.

Fubara maintained that his government’s record on accountability and transparency is solid, stressing that all resources are being used strictly in the interest of Rivers people, with visible development serving as proof.

He explained that the Obodhi–Ozochi road was initially initiated under former governor Nyesom Wike as part of efforts to mobilise political support ahead of the 2023 general elections, coordinated through Edison Ehie, then Chief of Staff and a former lawmaker. According to Fubara, Ehie delivered effectively, prompting the decision to complete and expand the project.

The road was extended by 4.2 kilometres, bringing its total length to 14.2 kilometres, and the governor also approved the construction of internal community roads.

Fubara further charged Edison Ehie to translate the massive turnout at the commissioning ceremony into sustained political support for President Bola Tinubu, noting that such backing would ease the President’s re-election efforts.
