The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has reiterated its commitment to boosting productivity, expanding financial inclusion, and ensuring monetary stability as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the nation’s economy.
CBN Governor Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, represented by the Acting Director of Corporate Communications, Mrs. Hakama Ali, gave the assurance on Tuesday at the opening of the 2025 CBN Fair held at the Mineet Event Centre in Kano.
Cardoso explained that the fair was designed to foster direct engagement with the public, noting that the bank’s policies are focused on improving livelihoods and driving sustainable growth.
Highlighting key reforms, he cited exchange rate unification to reduce forex volatility, bank recapitalisation to strengthen competitiveness, and the non-resident BVN scheme to integrate Nigerians abroad into the banking system.
He also noted the launch of the Nigeria Payments System Vision 2028, aimed at accelerating digital transformation and inclusion, and the Unified Complaints Tracking System, designed to protect bank customers and boost confidence in the financial sector.
With the theme “Driving Alternative Payment Channels as Tools for Financial Inclusion, Growth and Accelerated Economic Development,” Cardoso emphasized the importance of supporting SMEs and critical sectors to achieve price stability.
Acting Branch Controller of CBN Kano, Hajiya Saudatu Muhammad, described the fair as timely, saying it provided the public with an opportunity to engage directly with the apex bank and better understand its policies.
The 2025 edition attracted a wide range of participants, including mobile money operators, commercial banks, security agencies, academics, business leaders, NYSC members, and the media. It featured paper presentations and interactive Q&A sessions.
