President Bola Tinubu has sworn in the newly appointed Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Aminu Yusuf, during a brief ceremony held at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday. Yusuf was inaugurated alongside two commissionersâÂÂJoseph Haruna Kigbu from Nasarawa State and Tonga Betara Bularafa from Yobe StateâÂÂmarking a new phase in the leadership of the nationâÂÂs key demographic agency.
The ceremony, conducted during the opening segment of the FEC meeting, was witnessed by members of the council and comes after the SenateâÂÂs confirmation of the appointees on October 22, 2025. Yusuf, a native of Niger State, was endorsed as the new NPC Chairman following a recommendation and subsequent approval by the Council of State earlier in October.
Also sworn in were five permanent secretaries appointed to various ministries, further signaling ongoing efforts by the administration to strengthen federal institutions and streamline governance.
Yusuf succeeds Nasir Isa Kwara, who served as NPC Chairman from 2020. His appointment places him at the forefront of national planning and population management, with key responsibilities including overseeing census preparations, demographic data collection, and policy implementation vital to NigeriaâÂÂs development planning.
The swearing-in ceremony underscores the Tinubu administrationâÂÂs commitment to ensuring continuity, efficiency, and renewed leadership within the NPC as the country anticipates major demographic and socio-economic planning exercises in the years ahead.
