Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has formally announced his defection to the Accord Party, confirming that he will seek re-election on the party’s platform in the 2026 governorship contest.

Adeleke made the disclosure on Tuesday via a post on his verified X handle, revealing that he had quietly joined the Accord Party over a month ago — on November 6, 2025 — following extensive consultations with political stakeholders and community leaders.

The governor, who recently resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on December 2, said his decision to switch parties was influenced by the PDP’s ongoing leadership crisis and his desire to continue delivering what he described as “people-centered governance” in Osun.

According to Adeleke, the Accord Party’s ideology of welfarism aligns closely with his administration’s focus on workers’ welfare, social development, and inclusive governance.

“Stakeholders and residents of Osun State are aware of why we are taking this important decision,” the governor said.
“We intend to pursue a second term in office on the platform of the Accord Party to complete the ongoing delivery of good governance and democratic dividends, which have been applauded at home and abroad.
“We opted for the Accord Party because its mission of welfarism aligns with our passionate focus on citizens and workers’ welfare.”

Adeleke added that his interactions with the Accord Party over the past month had strengthened his conviction that the party offers a stable, people-focused platform for continued governance.

He also welcomed the party’s national leadership to Osun State, stressing the need for unity ahead of the next election cycle.

“Our task is to sustain a united front as we prepare for future elections. We have a duty to ensure inclusive leadership where the interests of all groups are cared for. Our party, Accord Party, is here to take over Osun governance and sustain the delivery of good governance in our dear state.”

Adeleke, who first gained prominence under the PDP as Senator for Osun West (2017–2019) before winning the governorship seat, expressed appreciation to the PDP for the opportunities it provided him but said its internal crisis made his departure inevitable.

The governor’s defection marks a significant realignment in Osun politics, with implications for both the PDP and APC as the 2026 governorship election draws closer.
