President Donald Trump on Friday announced that about 1.45 million United States military servicemembers will each receive a $1,776 bonus payment, funded through revenues generated from tariffs.

Speaking during a televised address, Trump said the payments, dubbed the “Warrior Dividend,” would be issued before Christmas.

“Think of this: 1,450,000 military servicemembers will receive a special, we call ‘Warrior Dividend’ before Christmas,” he said.

Trump explained that the $1,776 figure was chosen to honour 1776, the year the United States was founded, describing the bonus as a gesture of appreciation for the service and sacrifice of American troops.
